Jean-Sélim genießt ein geschäftiges und abwechslungsreiches Musikleben sowohl als Pianist als auch als Komponist. In der Saison 2023/24 gab er Konzerte auf der ganzen Welt, darunter Höhepunkte wie die Vancouver Recital Society, die Wigmore Hall, das Kronberg Casals Forum, das Winterthur Stadthaus und die Unione Musicale Torino. Er nahm Janáčeks gesamte Soloklaviermusik auf dem Klavier des Komponisten selbst auf, darunter auch bisher noch nicht eingespielte Werke, die in Kürze erscheinen werden. Als Komponist erhielt er 2023 vom Orpheus-Kammermusikwettbewerb den Auftrag für ein neues Werk für Klaviertrio und schrieb die Filmmusik für den Spielfilm Colombine von Dominique Othenin-Girard. In dieser Saison kehrt Jean-Sélim in die Wigmore Hall, zum Heidelberger Frühling und zu den Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festspielen zurück und wird das Schumann-Konzert in der Royal Concert Hall in Nottingham spielen.
Der in der Schweiz geborene Jean-Sélim studierte an der HEMU Lausanne bei Christian Favre, an der Guildhall School of Music & Drama bei Ronan O'Hora, am Royal Conservatory in Toronto, an der Kronberg Academy bei Sir András Schiff und Ferenc Rados sowie an der Barenboim-Said Akademie bei Jörg Widmann. Er nahm an Meisterkursen bei Richard Goode, Mitsuko Uchida, György Kurtag und vielen anderen teil.
Zu seinen Auszeichnungen zählen der Guildhall Wigmore Prize, der Lili Boulanger Memorial Fund Award (Boston) sowie erste Preise beim Ciurlionis-Klavierwettbewerb (Vilnius), beim Grieg-Kompositionswettbewerb, bei den YCAT International Auditions und beim Concours d’Interpretation in Lausanne.
Jean-Sélim ist international sowohl als Solist als auch als Kammermusiker tätig und trat bereits an Orten wie dem Barbican, der Royal Festival Hall, der Wigmore Hall, der Koerner Hall (Toronto), dem Banff Music Centre, der 92nd Street Y und der Weill Recital Hall (New York) sowie bei Festivals wie dem Lucerne Festival, dem Prussia Cove IMS und dem Düsseldorfer Schumannfest auf.
Seine Werke werden von Musikern wie Heinz Holliger, Antje Weithaas, Patricia Kopatchinskaja, Sylvia Nopper, Gilles Colliard und Einar Steen-Nokleberg sowie von Ensembles wie dem Orchestre de Chambre de Toulouse, den Swiss Chamber Soloists, der Camerata Bern, dem Zürcher Kammerorchester, dem Sine Nomine Quartett und dem Ensemble Séquence aufgeführt.
Jean-Selim reist, wann immer möglich, mit einem 88-Tasten-Elektrokeyboard, das er als Rucksack trägt und ohne Gage spielt, um Musik in das Herz der Gemeinschaft in Schulen, Krankenhäusern oder Seniorenheimen zu bringen.

Jean-Sélim enjoys a busy and varied musical life both as a pianist and composer. During the 2023/24 season he gave concerts across the world, highlights including the Vancouver Recital Society, Wigmore Hall, Kronberg Casals Forum, Winterthur Stadthaus, and Unione Musicale Torino. He recorded Janáček’s complete solo piano music on the composer’s own piano with previously unrecorded works, due for release very soon.
As a composer, he was commissioned in 2023 a new work for piano trio by the Orpheus chamber music competition and he wrote the soundtrack for the feature film Colombine directed by Dominique Othenin-Girard.
This season Jean-Sélim returns to the Wigmore Hall, Heidelberger Frühling and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern festivals and will play Schumann Concerto at the Royal Concert Hall in Nottingham.

Awards include the Guildhall Wigmore Prize, the Lili Boulanger Memorial Fund Award (Boston), and top prizes at the Ciurlionis Piano Competition (Vilnius), Grieg Composition Competition, YCAT International Auditions, and the Lausanne Concours d’Interpretation.
Jean-Sélim has performed widely internationally, both as soloist and chamber musician, appearing at venues such as the Barbican, Royal Festival Hall, Wigmore Hall, Koerner Hall (Toronto), Banff Music Centre, 92nd Street Y and Weill Recital Hall (New York), and at festivals including the Lucerne, Prussia Cove IMS and Düsseldorf Schumannfest.

Jean-Selim travels whenever possible with an 88-key electric keyboard which he carries as a backpack and plays for free, bringing music into the heart of the community in schools, hospitals or retirement homes.
