Das im September 2021 von vier der leidenschaftlichsten jungen koreanischen Musikern gegründete Ast Quartett hat in der klassischen Musikszene bereits einige Aufmerksamkeit erregt.
Die Formation gewann 2021 den Grand Prix beim Festivalul de Arte String & Chamber Music Competition in Rumänien und im Mai 2022 den 2. Preis beim Auryn Competition an der Hochschule für Musik Detmold. Das Ast Quartett trat auf Einladung von ForlìMusica in Forlì, Italien, auf und wird 2023 erneut in Turin und Biella auftreten. Sie spielten beim Mozart Chamber Music Festival an der Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin und bei derTonguidongclassic und Hermann Art Hall Series in Seoul, Korea.
Der Name des Quartetts – Ast ist von einem deutschen Wort entlehnt, das „Zweig“ bedeutet. Basierend auf seiner Expertise in klassischer Musik hofft das Quartett von ganzem Herzen, dass ihre Musik nicht nur wenige Menschen, sondern auch ein breites Spektrum von Zuhörern wie ein Baum mit zahlreichen verzweigten Armen erreichen kann.
Es ist ihre Leidenschaft für den Musikstil, den sie verfolgen, ihre Suche nach perfekter Harmonie und einem Sound, der das Publikum anspricht, der so überzeugend ist und diese vier Musiker schließlich zusammenbringen würde.
Nach Abschluss ihres Bachelorstudiums an der Seoul National University und der University of Seoul in Korea im Jahr 2020 hatten die talentierten Musiker ihr individuelles Masterstudium an Deutschlands besten Musikhochschulen begonnen, wie der Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler (Sungmoon Kim, Minju Park), der Universität der Künste Berlin (Jinju Yang) und der Hochschule für Musik Detmold (Eunju Cheung), als sie sich schließlich in Berlin wieder trafen und ihre Lust am gemeinsamen Kammermusikspiel entdeckten – das Ast Quartett war geboren.
Sungmoon Kim, die erste Violine spielt, studiert im Rahmen des Masterstudiums bei Prof. Ulf Wallin. Die zweite Violine, Minju Park, studiert im Rahmen des Masterstudiums bei Prof. Eva-Christina Schönweiß.
Die Violaspielerin Jinju Yang studiert im Rahmen des Masterstudiums bei Prof. Hans Joachim Greiner. Alle drei stehen kurz vor ihrem Abschluss in diesem Wintersemester.
Die Violoncellistin Eunju Cheung studiert Konzertexamen bei Prof. Xenia Jankovic.

Founded in September, 2021 by four of the most passionate young korean musicians, the Ast Quartet has already gained some attention in the classical music scene.
The formation won the Grand Prix at the Festivalul de Arte String & Chamber Music Competition in Romania in 2021 and the 2nd price at the Auryn Competition at Hochschule für Musik Detmold in May 2022. The Ast Quartet performed in Forlì, Italy at the invitation of ForlìMusica and will perform again in Turin and Biella in 2023. They played at the Mozart Chamber Music Festival at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin and at the Tonguidongclassic and Hermann Art Hall Series in Seoul, Korea.
The name of the Ast Quartet is borrowed from a German word meaning "branch". Based on our expertise in classical music, not only to few people but also we wholeheartedly hope our music could reach out to diverse spectrum of listeners like a tree with numerous branching arms.
It's their passion about the musical style they pursue, their search for perfect harmony and a sound that speaks to the audience, which is so compelling and eventually would bring these four musicians together.
After completing their bachelor's degrees at the Seoul National University and the University of Seoul in Korea in 2020, the talented musicians had begun their individual master studies in Germany's finest musical colleges, as Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler (Sungmoon Kim, Minju Park), Universität der Künste Berlin (Jinju Yang) and Hochschule für Musik Detmold (Eunju Cheung), when they finally met again in Berlin and discovered their desire to play chamber music together - the Ast Quartet was born.
Sungmoon Kim, who is in first violin, studying Master degree with Prof. Ulf Wallin. And second violin, Minju Park is also studying Master degree with Prof. Eva-Christina Schönweiß.
